TopTen is a door that allows users to create top ten
lists, adding an element every time they pass trough the door.
It is sort of a cross between a graffiti wall and a voting
booth. Try it out locally with the included files and you
should get a good idea of what it does. I recommend setting
TopTen up so that every time a user calls they pass through
it or at least see the ANSI or ASCII files.
TopTen does not require any setup program (although you
should take a look at sysop.top) or command line parameters.
All it needs is a dropfile from the BBS. CHAIN.TXT,
DORINFOx.DEF, SFDOORS.DAT, DOOR.SYS, CALLINFO.BBS, and
EXITINFO.BBS (but not this one alone) are all acceptable.
Be sure to delete the included DORINFO1.DEF before running
TopTen on your BBS!
TopTen was written using the Open Doors library and is
therefore compatible with RemoteAccess, QuickBBS, PC-Board,
Maximus, Apex, Opus, WildCat, WWIV, Spitfire, SuperBBS,
RBBS-PC, TriTel, GAP and others. This program requires a
FOSSIL. (unless it only run locally)
Top Ten reasons for using and registering TopTen
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10 It is compatible with most BBS packages and drop files.
9 It is a great door.
8 It creates both ANSI and ASCII files automatically
7 Registration is sort of FREE!!!!(see bottom of file)
8 It takes care of itself, just set it up and let it run.
7 It is in no way crippled when unregistered, it just beeps
and puts up a screen telling your users to send you money!
6 Registration is only $5!!!!!!!!
5 It has nice colors
4 It comes with some categories to get things started. (just
rename top.cat to cat.top)
3 It includes a free program (top!show.exe) that displays the
top.ans or top.asc file in case your BBS won't.
2 It's DesqView aware!!
1 Registration is only 5 very appreciated dollars!!
MAIN MENU
This should be self explanatory but:
0-Exit Exits the door
1-Add to list Adds the next element to the list in
descending order.
2-Add future category Adds a category to the list of
categories that will be used in the
future. If "Reasons that there are
no categories" is displayed, it will
continue to be displayed until the
next category would normally be
displayed even if new categories were
added.
3-New category SYSOP FUNCTION ONLY Moves on to the
next category in the cat.top list and
takes care of all other necessary
file changes. It is not necessary to
use this but you want to if you don't
like the current subject or to trim
the cat.top list.(too many categories
were added)
These are only displayed if they are available to the person
who is currently using the door.
FILES
You won't have most of these files to start with, TopTen
creates many. '*' means that there is no need for you to do
anything to this file or even look at.
topten.exe Main program
top!show.exe Free program for sending ansi and ascii files,
automatically decides which one.
sysop.top Sysop configuration file
top.ans ANSI file with the latest top ten list; updated
automatically.
top.asc ASCII file with the latest top ten list;
updated automatically.
day.top File used by TopTen to keep track of when to
move on to next category. Delete it (it will
come back) to force it to go to the next
category.(the same thing can be done by being
the sysop and hitting '4' at the TopTen menu)
* cat.top File containing future categories; don't mess
with it.
* rson.top File containing the top ten entries as they are
added; don't mess with it.
name.top Keeps track of who entered what if you have
that enabled. (from sysop.top) You must delete
this yourself or it will keep getting bigger.
* n-cat.top Keeps track of who has entered a future
category today when enabled. (by activating the
1 category a day limit, will slow things down)
* n-rson.top Keeps track of who has entered an element on
the top ten list today if you have that
enabled. (by either limiting users to one entry
a day or forcing them to enter one a day, it
will slow the door down)
top.cat Some categories you may want to use to get
started, just rename this file to cat.top.
dorinfo1.def A drop file to run in local mode as sysop;
delete before running for real!
REGISTER.TXT REGISTRATION FORM, JUST FILL OUT & PRINT!!
REGISTRATION
Registration is only $5 for any BBS running up to 5
nodes, and only $1 per node extra beyond that. An unlimited
number of copies may be run on any 1 BBS. (maybe you would
want a different one for each node?) Add $2 extra if paying
by personal check. Foreign orders are welcome as long as
payments are in US dollars.
Send $5 cash or money order or $7 check to:
Paul Buchheit - TT
5436 County Line Rd.
Webster, NY 14580
USA
Make any checks or money orders payable to Paul Buchheit.
Your registration key will be sent immediately. (unlike some
other doors)
BOTTOM OF FILE
If you register this door you will automatically receive
$5 off of your registration of my other door, (it should be
finished soon) Nuclear Destruction. Nuclear Destruction is a
happy little game of death where each player (max of 25
players in a game, unrealistic max of about 30,000 games) gets
people, nuclear weapons, and a defense; the last person alive
wins! Regular registration price for this game will only be
$10 and if you have already registered TopTen it will only be
$5!!!!!
Thanks and please pass this door (not the key!!) around
everywhere!
